Regeneration

Pioneers in applying the FMNR technique in Peru.

At Valle Sagrado Verde, we lead the way with our Fire Prevention and Ecological Conservation Brigades project, applying the innovative FMNR (Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration) technique. Our community is at the heart of the project, with forest brigades made up of true guardians dedicated to prevention and environmental protection. Each member is actively involved in pruning, monitoring, and watering natural areas to promote sustainable conservation.

Natural Regeneration

Selection

Select the main branches of the tree and, for each branch, select a number of the tallest and straightest stems to become trees.

Pruning and Management

Remove unwanted stems and lateral branches. Manage any threats to remaining branches from livestock, fire, and competing vegetation or weeds.

Maintenance

Remove emerging lower stems and prune lateral branches from time to time.

Important Benefits

1.   It takes care of the tree and makes it stronger. Removing dry or weak branches helps the tree grow better and live longer.

2. Prevent forest fires. By removing dead branches, we reduce the amount of fuel that can easily ignite.

3. Help restore biodiversity. Improve the environment to encourage native plants, birds, and animals.

4. It makes trees grow faster, allowing native forests to form in less time.

5. Involve the whole community. It's a simple, useful, and educational activity that everyone can do together.

Example

Make positive impact with us

Natural regeneration is a key strategy for strengthening forests and minimizing the impacts of climate change. Through regenerative pruning, we facilitate the recovery of native species and promote healthier, more resilient ecosystems.
