What are the Forestry Brigades?

Welcome to our brigade page on our website for the latest information, manuals, contacts, and support. Starting with the question: What are Forest Brigades? They are groups of community volunteers (minimum 10 people per group) who organize to care for and protect the forests and ecosystems in their area. These brigades receive training, tools, and support to carry out concrete actions related to fire prevention, conservation, and reforestation.

How the Brigades work

Prevent Forest Fires

  • They are alert to any sign of fire.
  • They rely on indications of a fire emergency, the first line of defense.
  • They disseminate information in the community on how to prevent fires.

2. Participate in organic pruning campaigns

  • They prune dry or harmful branches to protect the trees.
  • These prunings help make forests healthier and safer.
3. Reforestation with native trees
  • Plant species such as queñua, molle, chachacomo, etc.
  • These species help conserve water and restore ecosystems.

3. Educate and raise awareness in the community

  • They participate in parades, marches and workshops.
  • They promote environmental culture and care for nature.
  • Attend training sessions

4. Monitor and report

  • They keep a record of their activities (photos, reports, videos).
  • They report on the progress and problems they detect in their community.

Natural Regeneration

Selection

Select the main branches of the tree and, for each branch, select a number of the tallest and straightest stems to become trees.

Pruning and Management

Remove unwanted stems and lateral branches. Manage any threats to remaining branches from livestock, fire, and competing vegetation or weeds.

Maintenance

Remove emerging lower stems and prune lateral branches from time to time.

BENEFICIOS PRINCIPALES

1.   It takes care of the tree and makes it stronger. Removing dry or weak branches helps the tree grow better and live longer.
2. Evita incendios forestales.
3. Help restore biodiversity. Improve the environment to encourage native plants, birds, and animals.

4. It makes trees grow faster, allowing native forests to form in less time.

5. Involve the whole community. It's a simple, useful, and educational activity that everyone can do together.

Testimonials

Rosa Quispe Huamán

Leader of Pilcobamba Brigade

“In previous years, we had fires in our community, and we didn't know how to deal with them. Thanks to Valle Sagrado Verde's training, we can now respond quickly and know what to do to protect our trees. Regenerative pruning also taught me that the forest can recover with our own hands. I feel happy to contribute to nature and to the community work we do together.”
